Janet Ann Smith, 85, of Oblong, Illinois passed away on November 18, 2020.

She was born in Bellair, IL on April 5, 1935. Janet was the daughter of Herbert Elliott and Ruth Baker. Janet graduated from Oblong Township High School in 1953. On October 8, 1953 Janet married the love of her life Ocie V. Smith Jr. who preceded her in death.

Ocie and Janet created a beautiful farm and family together. They worked side-by-side on the dairy and grain farm for more than 60 years. She was a masterful cook and enjoyed feeding her family and farmhands especially during hay and straw season. Janet was a lifelong member of Central United Methodist Church – Oblong. She was a member of the United Methodist Church Women’s Axillary, the Order of the Eastern Star, and served as an election judge for many decades.

Janet’s pride and joy in life were her six grandchildren and later seven great grandchildren. You could find Ocie and Janet traveling to every concert and sports event for the kids; she lovingly cross-stitched baby quilts for her grandchildren. Janet was an avid collector of antique irons, loved game shows and crossword puzzles, and was a champion bowler in multiple leagues. Janet and Ocie loved driving around town on their golf cart and traveling to antique tractor shows. They spent winters in Daytona, Florida where they enjoyed cruising, dining out, and long-conversations on the porch.
