The funeral services of Mr. John Harmon, conducted by Rev. Mr. Pearce, assisted by Rev. Mr. Brigham, were held at the Methodist church on Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock and were largely attended. The deceased was born in Rockingham, Va., January 16, 1827. In 1847 he was married to Miss Lizzie Fleming, to this union were born eight children, seven of whom have died. Mrs. Jennie Whitmer of Virginia being the only surviving one. On May 14, 1861, he was married to Miss Sarah E. Dice. To this union were born eight children also, seven of whom are living. They are Mrs. Bertha Butler, Ft. Dodge, Ia; P.L. Harman, Bloomington; W.D. Harman, Mrs. Mamie Foley and Mary O. Homan of Downs; Lizzie G. Key, Springfield; Ella Bruce, who died May 20, 1892; and Miss Blanche, at home. Besides his aged wife and children, twenty-five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren survive him. Mr. Harmon has been the faithful sexton of the Methodist church for eleven years, and it is with much satisfaction his friends remember his good traits.
