Delores "DeeDee" M. Birely, 84, of Milan, passed away Sunday, November 22, 2020, at her daughter's residence.

DeeDee was born on February 5, 1936, in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Benjamin Joseph and Lila Hassler Boetje Schmidt.

She worked at Milan Flower Shop, Two Sisters restaurant, The Rock Island Argus, The Quad-City Times, Davenport, Wilbert Vault, and retired from South Park Mall in the maintenance department, Charles Boetje Foods, Milan, Scamper Inn, Milan.

DeeDee loved the outdoors watching all the animals. She also enjoyed her family, dogs, and making beautiful flower arrangements. Watching her grandchildren and Family play
in the pool, although she was deathly scared of water, she
teach us how to swim.

While we were out boating, she would sit on the floor between the seats, in fear of falling out, I told her that was the worst place to be, if we capsized she most likely would get caught in the boat,
so she got up and sat in the seat and hung on for dear life.

Mom was a very loving an caring person, much like her Mother, having joined the US Navy while in High School, and never returning to Illinois for decades, I have few of the memories of
Mom that my siblings have, and maybe I have blocked any
negative memories, I do recall vividly that one time I was about
nine years old, and a very thin and did not enjoy eating, I had gotten a raw potato and was eating it in the bathroom, when Mom came home I threw it under the sink! thinking I would get in trouble for eating a raw potato! Of course, being the Mother she
is, she found it! and since I didn't confess to it, she put us all
outside and said we had to stay out there until someone fessed up to it, and we were all getting beaten, we all knew it was me! and I am pretty sure Mom knew it too! The funny thing is I do not remember getting a beating, but I am sure I did get it. She raised all six of us basically alone, with help from Granny, and Uncle Gene, and I feel she did a great job considering we are all still alive and doing well with our families, she has a beautiful family of descendants that continues to grow, and we all love her to no end.

DeeDee is survived by her children, Warren (Debbie) Birely, Marvetta (Harold) Jones, George (Becky) Birely, D. Frederick Birely, Gail (Lance) Burkert, and Terry "Trae" (Tommy) Kerr, daughter-in-law Vickie Lynn Muller Birely; grandchildren, Melissa (John) Cook, Amy (Fiance, Chris) Barnett, Timothy (Shana) Birely, Kevin (Pam) Jones, Lyndee (Aaron) Smith, Jennifer Birely, Sarah Birely, Jacob (Kylie) Burkert, Marvin (Julie) Birely, Jeremy Birely, Anthony (Katie) Houska, Natasha (Brandon) Larson, Tara (Brian) Dietiker, Duan (Brittany) Kerr, and Brandon (Jaimie) Kerr and Matt Testroet; granddaughter-in-law, Alaina Birely; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; special sister-in-law, Jeanny Schmidt; numerous nieces and nephews; and aunt, Shirley Boetje.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Michael "Mikey" Birely; and brothers, Eugene and Frederick Schmidt.
