W. J. Robertson, former merchant, dies Tuesday
Funeral services are to be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the O'Leary Funeral Chapel for William Jean Robertson, 77, former Bodega Bay merchant, who died Tuesday at Palm Drive Hospital. The Rev. Lewis Whitehead of the Sebastopol Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Sebastopol cemetery.
Mr. Robertson, who operated a store at Bodega Bay from 1918 to 1928 in property still owned by the family, had been in ill health for some time.
The onetime merchant is a direct descendant of Gen. James Robertson, one of Lincoln's generals mentioned frequently in the historical novels of the American Winston Churchill. His grandfather came to the Bodega area in 1852 with his two-year old son, father of William Jean Robertson, escorted by Kit Carson, a cousin of the grandfather.
William J. Robertson was born April 14, 1886, at Cazadero.
He was a charter member of Bodega Bay Grange No. 777.
Survivors are his wife Zella, of Bodega Bay; a son William W. Robertson, Bodega Bay; three daughters, Zella R. Martinelli, Stockton'; Jeanne Ballatore, Valley Ford; and Mary Carroll, Grants Pass, Ore.; two sisters, Ivy Duarson, Sebastopol, and Pansy Owens, Two Rock; two brothers, John A. Robertson of Graton and Jesse J. Robertson of Guerneville; 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
