Jere Robinson Cox was born on the Robinson farm, one owned by his Great Great Grandfather James Thomas Robinson of Union County South Carolina. His family moved to this land in 1832 when his great great grandfather G.W. Robinson was two. This hill is where James and G.W built the Robinson home in 1850 on the exact spot of Gibson County's first church, El Bethel Methodist Church. The Goodmans built a church were the right side of the Robinson house stands today and it's said the first chimney in the county was built here by William Goodman in 1815 being a surveyor and building roads. The original church was a log cabin that was moved down below our home. It burned in the 1960s. For 170 years we Robinsons have owned this hill though others lived here. Robert Essary and Roger Williams and A.D. Turbo also rented it and all were loved as family. Jere was born here. He grew up here but moved to Paris where his father helped create McCartney Produce. They later returned to Milan. 1st Lt. Jere R. Cox attended ROTC at Memphis State University and commanded a tank platoon. He served 13 years in the U.S. National Guard and later worked at the Milan Arsenal. He then became partners in Shady Lane Eggs. After it closed, he assumed control of the Governor Gordon Browning Museum and was the most skilled and talented genealogist in Carroll and Gibson counties. He served as Carroll County Historian and Archivist through his passing. He was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Milan for his life as was his father. He was a devout christian and very diligent in his service to Operational Christmas Child. He was a service to all he encountered and he spent his life trying to make other's lives better. Yes I will miss my father but I also know he devoted 84 years to humanity and 50% of Carroll and Gibson county's history disappeared today. Second to none, he knew everyone's family. My family is stunned by his passing but happy that he is now in heaven singing praises to his saviour. Son of Robert Durane Cox and Mary Sue Robinson Cox. His great grandparents were Alex Guy Jenkins and Eva Adelle Cox , and, Joseph E Robinson and Waneta Kelsey Browning Robinson. He was a direct descendant of Aunooyohee, Lucy Briant of Reservation 91 in the old Cherokee Nation. 1936-2017. Brent CoxHe was the Executive Director of the Gordon Browning Museum & Genealogical Library in McKenzie, Carroll County, Tennessee.

As a very young boy, my dad taught me daily how to love baseball and play 125%. I fashioned myself after my idol Roberto Clemente and every game I ever played I did so as #21. Later my dad coached me in Babe Ruth and then he was my assistant manager of Super Drugs when my son Robert played third base. We were a great team but my dad was the inspiration. He played close attention to Willie Monkey and Brandis Caldwell and Labronski Milam.. We always knew a good lead off hitter was the key. Those days were grand and baseball remains my biggest passion. Dad was a Cardinals fan and my house all for the Reds. We met hundreds of baseball stars and my dad's dream of teaching me baseball was a success. We loved the sport more than any team. Our greatest times were talking baseball and about the Memphis Tigers. We were blue and red through and through. All in.
