He was born March 25, 1934, in Ennis to the late Luther Buck and Opal Waldrop Thomas. He lived most of his life in East Texas and served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was a service technician for Guardian Building Materials. He was preceded in death by sister, Opal Faye Browning.
