Julia Menninger Gottesman Julia Menninger Gottesman died at her home in Sierra Madre, California on September 12, 2016 at the age of 97. She was born on April 15, 1919 in Topeka, Kansas, the eldest daughter of Dr. Karl A. Menninger and Grace Gaines Menninger. She taught English and history at Emerson Jr. High in Westwood, California and later became a language arts consultant for Los Angeles Unified School District as well as a demonstration teacher for California State University, Northridge. She was a dedicated and active member in her community serving on the Civic Club, Sierra Madre Environmental Action Council, and Friends of the Library. Julia was a loving mother, mentor, and friend and will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents Dr. Karl A. Menninger and Grace Gaines Menninger; by her two siblings - Dr. Bob Menninger and Mrs. Martha Menninger Nichols. She is survived by her half-sister Rosemary Jean Menninger of Topeka, Kansas and her children - Ann Gottesman of Bodega Bay, California, Robert Lawrence & Susan Sumida Gottesman of Solvang, California, and Nancy Evans of Escondido, California.
