JONES, Grace Esther Cooper
Passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2004 in Auburn, CA. She had been in ill health since a massive stroke in 1996. Grace was born on September 20, 1912 in Kansas City, Kansas. She grew up on the oil fields of the Midwest. She was the daughter of Dora Elsie Bingham and James Sylvester Cooper. In August of 1932, she met and married Hubert Millard Jones in Glencoe, OK. They were married over 51 years when Hubert passed away in 1983. Grace was the mother of Gerald Jones of Tacoma, WA, Robert Jones (who predeceased her in 1984) and Lois Jones Franceschi of Auburn, CA. She was also the grandmother of six, great-grandmother of six and great-great-grandmother of one. Grace was very active in her community, serving as president of many organizations including the Del Paso Heights Improvement Club, Third District Parent Teachers Association, the Pythian Sisters Lodge 1 in Sacramento and the North Sacramento Women's Club. She also served as a Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout Den Mother and assisted her husband in Boy Scout Troup 241. In 1955, Grace and her husband, "Wimpy" Jones, opened their own business in Sacramento to repair auto radios. Wimpy Jones Radio Service grew to service most of the auto dealerships west of the Mississippi River. They sold the business in 1982. Grace has always been an artist. She was self-taught in many of the mediums...painting, sculpting, mosaics, and carving were just a few of her talents. After her stroke in 1996, she taught herself to paint using her left (or non-dominant) hand. Several of her works were hung in a local gallery. At Grace request, there will be no services. She will be cremated and her ashes scattered. Memorials may be made to the Pythian Youth Campership Fund, c/o Geri Worley, 17853 Huckleberry Drive, Penn Valley, CA 95946. Cremation handled by Lasallia Funeral Home, Auburn, CA.
