Hoyle Brannock Adams, Jr. died May 6, 2008. He was born December 5, 1921 in Asheville, North Carolina and grew up in Asheville, Canada, and Henderson County, North Carolina. He graduated from Christ School in Arden, North Carolina in 1940. He then went to North Carolina State University and graduated in 1950 with a degree in agricultural education and economics. His education at NC State was interrupted by World War II, where he served in the Army Air Corps until the war ended. He then remained in the Air Force Reserve, where he retired as a lieutenant-colonel.

While at NCSU, Hoyle was involved in many activities, including the glee club, rifle team, Raleigh Little Theatre, athletic council, and interfraternity council. He was involved in campus government, where he served on the Greater University Student Council, and was campus government president. He was awarded the Golden Chain.

Hoyle married Katharine Shipman Durham after finishing at NCSU, attended law school at the University of Georgia and received his law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He began his law practice in Hendersonville in 1953 with Judge J.E. Shipman and continued to practice law until he was in his seventies, during which tenure he also served as a Magistrate for Henderson County. He was also a certified mediator and continued mediating after he closed his law practice. He also worked as a volunteer teaching English as a second language after his retirement from the practice of law.

During his life, Hoyle served on the Hendersonville Zoning Board, the Henderson County Social Services Board, and several special committees for the city government. He served as a vestryman, school board, and choir member at St. James Episcopal Church, was secretary of the Henderson County YMCA, president of the Hendersonville Little Theater, was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha social fraternity, Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity, the Cotillion Club, the Elks Lodge, the American Legion, the V.F.W., and the Kiwanis Club.

Hoyle B. Adams enjoyed the theater tremendously, and acted in many plays for various groups, including the Hendersonville Little Theater, of which he was a founding member. Hoyle is survived by his daughter Lunday A. Riggsbee, son-in-law Fred Riggsbee, daughter Katharine A. Cline, son-in-law Rodney Cline, son Hoyle B. Adams, III, daughter-in-law Gypsy P. Adams, and three grandchildren, Miller Brown, Daniel Riggsbee, and William Riggsbee.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00PM on Friday, May 9, 2008 at St. James Episcopal Church with Rev. Joel G. Hafer officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Parish Hall.
