Sir George Smyth Powell b. 24 Dec 1847 Son of Reverend Baden Powell and Henrietta Grace Smyth.
His mother, Henrietta Grace Smyth, the third wife of Baden Powell (both deceased), was a gifted musician and artist.

In 1893, George married Frances Wilson. They had a daughter, Maud ( born 1895), and a son, Donald Ferlys Wilson Baden - Powell (1897–1973) .

In 1896, George arrived at Novaya Zemlya in the Arctic region on his yacht "Otaria" to observe the total solar eclipse of the year. George then returned to Wald, Norway, to meet his friend Fritjof Nansen, who had just returned from a three-year North Pole expedition.

Powell died at his residence in Euston Square, London, on 20 Nov. 1898, and was buried at Kensal Green cemetery on 24 Nov. In April 1893 he married, at Cheltenham, Frances, only child of Charles Wilson of Glendouran, Cheltenham. She survived him. By her he had a son and daughter.
