YAKIMA - Sarah Lucille Downen, 79, of Yakima, Washington passed away on October 1, 2007. She was at her daughter's home surrounded by family. Sarah was born in Milton-Freewater, Oregon on October 24, 1927. She moved to Yakima in the early 1940's where she later met and married Douglas Downen, they had four children.
In the late 1960's she owned and operated Joanne's Cafe. She later began work at Washington Fruit where she retired as a handpacker at the age of 75.
After retiring she enjoyed cooking, sewing, and spending quality time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Sarah is survived by her children; Sharon (Larry) Whitmire, Janine Bliss, Diane (Roy) Beaman, and Steven (Neva) Downen; as well as 11 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ludwig and Sophie Aichele, six sisters, four brothers, and son-in-law, Michael Bliss.
Visitation will be offered today, Wednesday, October 3, 2007 from 10 AM � 7 PM at Shaw & Sons Funeral Directors. Graveside funeral services will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, October 4, 2007 at Tahoma Cemetery with Chaplain David Dalton officiating. Immediately following the graveside, family and friends will gather at the Cascade Garden, 5704 W Washington Ave, Yakima, WA. Those wishing to attend the graveside should meet at the cemetery.
She will be missed greatly by family and friends who loved her dearly.
