June Walker, age 95, went to be with our Lord on December 3, 2020.
She was born in Quitman, Texas on September 8, 1925 to Monte and Ruth Cherry. She was the second of three children.
At age 16, her family moved to Houston, where she met the love of her life of 61 years, Dick Walker. They had many years of love, laughter and adventure. During their time living on Kwajalein, Marshall Islands, June developed a love of going out on the reef at low tide picking up seashells and sea urchins. On their several trips to Alaska, she enjoyed panning for gold and fishing for salmon. She also loved cooking, sewing, and fishing with Dick.
After retirement in 1977, Dick and June made their home in Point Blank, Texas, where they lived until their deaths. They loved country living, fishing and helping their neighbors.
June was a committed Christian. Until recent years, she was very active in her church, Point Blank Community Church. She enjoyed singing in the choir, serving on the Sunshine Committee, working in Vacation Bible School, and participating in the prayer chain. Some of the times she enjoyed with her church family was the " eatin' meetin' ", when the church would have a meal, fellowship, and conduct church business. She loved and was loved by her church family.
She loved her family and would do most anything she could for them. She is survived by her sister, Nell Eckhardt, and husband, Jim; son, Curt Walker; daughter, LaNell Waters, and husband, Dan; granddaughter, Treva Barham, and husband, Russell; four great grandsons, Aiden, Liam, Straton, and Paxton; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Dick, and her brother, Farris Cherry.
Due to the current pandemic, the family has chosen to have a private graveside service on Tuesday, December 8th at 10:00 am, at Center Hill Cemetery, Oakhurst, Texas. A memorial service in her memory will be held at a later date.
