Alexander, Anna "Thelma" Hayes
Born November 29, 1929 to William Jefferson and Lennie Edna Cavnar Hayes (died 07-17-1976). She was educated in Davidson County Schools where she attended Ross Elementary and East High School.

She began her working career at the General Shoe Company, forerunner of today's Genesco. There she met and married Sam R. Alexander in 1948.

She was predeceased by her husband in 08-24-1984. She left General Shoe to raise her family. She later returned to the workforce with Harvey Company where she worked for 25 years. Most recently she worked an additional 25 years for Dillard's, retiring at the age of 85. Mrs. Alexander was a member of Dalewood Baptist Church for over 60 years where she taught sunday school, and sang in the choir.

She was also predeceased by her sisters Louise Nell, Cornelia Roth, Berniece Fuqua, Karleen Cobb, and Maybelle Wall, and her brother William Jefferson Hayes Jr.

She is survived by her daughters Nova Alexander, and Joanne (Bill) Hawley, both of Nashville, two sons Robert (Donna) Alexander of Hendersonville, TN and Gary Alexander of Nashville, grandchildren Amy (Jeff) Chavies, Collierville, TN, Sarah Alexander (Taylor Durham) Hermitage, TN, Dr. Justin T. (Jennifer) Alexander of Hendersonville, TN, great-grandsons Carson and Brennan Chavies, Collierville, TN, Jackson and Jeremiah Alexander of Hendersonville, TN, Xander Durham Hermitage, TN, and great-granddaughter Jenna Grace Alexander of Hendersonville, TN, also her sister-in-law Georgia Lee Bucy Hayes of Norfolk, VA, numerous nieces and nephews who loved their "Aunt Thelma."
Most recently Mrs. Alexander was a member of First Baptist Church Hendersonville, TN.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at 2pm in Historic Spring Hill Cemetery with Rev. Greg Crane officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Justin Alexander, Jack Bussell, Jimmy Bussell, Jeff Chavies, Jackson Alexander, Jason Bussell, Taylor Durham, and Wayne Cobb. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to Dalewood Baptist Church 1586 McGavock Pike, Nashville, TN 37216. Those wishing to attend the graveside may meet at Spring Hill Funeral Home at 1:45pm to go in procession to the grave site together.

Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery has been entrusted with the final care of Ms. Alexander.
