Jim Hardman, 67, passed away unexpectedly the night after moving into a new home with his beloved wife of 43 years, Laura Milroy Hardman (Laurie). Jim was born in St. Louis, MO when his parents, the late Edwin Hardman, and mother, Alice Coe Hardman were grad students at Washington University. He has been a Seattle native since 1951.
Jim graduated from Nathan Hale, WW Univ. and UPS School of Law. He practiced law for 25 years in Seattle's Pioneer Square, served as pro tem Judge at several court levels, mediator for the BBB, and was a member of Elder Law. He later specialized in guardianship, reduced his law practice, and became a Certified Professional Guardian. At the time of his death, he was President of Friends of Fircrest, a board member of Friends of Rainier, and an active member of WA State Action for Developmental Disabilities. Jim met the love of his life, in 1974, and they were married in 1977. Jim and Laurie enjoyed training Portuguese Water Dogs for therapy work and volunteered in various facilities for more than a decade (Laurie has continued this for thirty years). Jim played soccer into his 40s, was an ardent reader with an impressive library. As a younger man, he was an honor student, proficient and teacher of the Russian language learned to fence and worked as a ski instructor when attending WWU. Jim was highly respected and appreciated for his understanding and leadership in his field, always an active speaker and teacher. He was a tireless worker for high standards of care for disabled persons. He will be remembered for his personal warmth, integrity, and respect for all. His passing is a great loss.
Survivors include his wife, mother, father in law, brothers in law, John Pinkley and Casey Milroy, sisters in law Marilyn Pinkley and Marcia Milroy, 5 nieces and nephews and their spouses, cousins, and 10 great-nieces and nephews. Burial arrangements under the direction of Acacia Memorial Park & Funeral Home.
