Obituary - Samantha Abbott Martling, wife of Vincent Martling, died on Friday last in Brooklyn after an illness of many years. She had been a resident of Brooklyn about sixty years and was born at Babylon on December 5, 1825, her father, Jesse Abbott, being a prominent citizen and farmer here in the early part of the last century. He was of old Continental stock and left five children, of whom the deceased was the last survivor, and who all lived to a very advanced age. Her sisters were Mrs. James Van Nostand, of Hyde Park, L.I.; Mrs. Andrew Cheshire, of Oyster Bay ; Mrs. Isaac Rundle and Mrs. James Halstead, of Brooklyn ; and her brother was James H. Abbott of Birmingham, Ala., all now deceased and leaving numerous descendants in this vicinity. Mrs. Martling was for many years prominent in church work in the Eighteenth street M. E. church. She is survived by her husband, Vincent Martling; her son, Vincent, Jr. , and a daughter, Mrs. J. A. Williams, of Brooklyn. Funeral services were held at the residence of her daughter on Sunday.
Death Record - Samantha Abbot Martling, aged 85, of 455 8th St., born about 1826 in the U.S., the daughter of Jesse Abbott and Charity Monfort, both of the U.S., died on October 27, 1911 in Brooklyn, New York, and was buried on October 29, at Greenwood Cemetery.
