JOAN SYCLE NORWITZ (Age 73)
On Sunday, August 26, 2012, Joan Sycle Norwitz of Rockville, Maryland. She leaves her adored husband of almost 46 years, Martin Norwitz. She is also survived by her 4 beloved children and their spouses, Robert and Lisa Norwitz, Laurie and Greg Karabinus, Marc and Tammy Norwitz, Sandy Norwitz and Jose Gonzalez, and four precious grandchildren, Brian, Danielle, Tyler and Alex. Joan was a native Washingtonian attending Woodrow Wilson High School, then Lasell College in Auburndale, Massachusetts and the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland. She taught elementary school in the Montgomery County Public School System and later worked as a sales and human resource associate of Hecht's Department Store at Montgomery Mall where she retired after 18 years of service. In 1971, Joan and Martin, along with six other couples, founded Temple Beth Ami, a reform synagogue now located in Rockville, Maryland. Joan always took great pride in this achievement. Funeral services will be held at Temple Beth Ami, 14330 Travilah Rd., Rockville, MD 20850. Interment at King David Memorial Gardens. Contributions in Joan's memory may be made to Temple Beth Ami or the Fisher House Foundation, 111 Rockville Pike, Ste. 420, Rockville, MD 20850.
