Richard, 80 of Lake, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, December 3, 2020 at the MidMichigan Medical Center of Clare. Dick was the son of Mary B (Hartges) and adopted dad John S. Colomina.

Dick was a graduate of the Royal Oak Dondero High School class of 1959, and shortly after his graduation, was drafted by the Phillies minor league baseball team to play his favorite position, 3rd base. Unfortunately he suffered an elbow injury which brought his baseball to an end. Dick then proudly entered four years of service with the U.S. Marine Corps where he received many honors. Upon finishing his enlistment with the Marines, Dick met his wife (Paulette) and they started a family with their two amazing children, Tonya and Tony. Even though the marriage came to an end, Dick continued to be a great father and supporter to his kids and ex-wife.

In the 1970’s Dick began his 20-plus year career as a firefighter with the City of Livonia Fire Department, where he would eventually achieve the rank of captain. In 1978, Dick married his love (Barb) where they lived in Livonia and he helped raise her two sons, (Jim and Tim).

After his retirement from Livonia Fire in the early 1990’s, Dick & Barb retired permanently on Crooked Lake at their family cabin and continued until the unfortunate passing of his loving wife in 2003. In 2004, Dick met Pennie and the pair was united in marriage on August 5, 2006 at the Lake Eagles Club, where the two continued to live their wonderful retirement years on beautiful Crooked Lake with their extended family and friends.

Dick loved being active and playing sports. He played on several baseball teams in his younger years and was very competitive. He greatly enjoyed playing racquetball at the CMU Student Activity Center where he volunteered. He also enjoyed horseshoes, ping pong, volleyball, boating and waterskiing on Crooked Lake, snowmobiling in the winter months, and dancing whenever he could. Everyone that knew him well knew that he was a socialite and loved spending time with family, friends, and his dogs.

Dick is survived by his wife Pennie Colomina of Lake, and his children Tonya (Chris) Colomina of Ontario, OR., Tony Colomina of Hillsboro, OR., step children; Jim (Gabriella) Hicks of Wixom, MI., Tim (Cindy) Hicks of Livonia, MI., Amy Starin of Mt. Pleasant, MI., and Lisa (Joe) Kazamer of Portland, MI. Other survivors include his grandchildren Vanessa, Jadzia, Alexander, Zach, Riley, Camryn, Colin, Kobe, and Conner, his great-grandchildren Charlie and twins Milo and Lane, his brother Mike (Lisa) Colomina of Allen Park, MI., his nieces Mallory, Hillary, and Ashleigh, and many cherished friends.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents John and Mary Colomina and late wife Barb Colomina.

In keeping with Dick’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Dick’s life will take place in Lake, MI., in the spring or summer of 2021 at a location and date yet to be determined. Memorial contributions in honor of Dick may be referred to either the ASPCA, or to the Wounded Warrior Project.
