Roland, as his mother's family called him, was the son of Charles Roland 'Wally' Waters, a hotel laundry foreman, and Clara Roena Stowell Moulton. His nickname was Doc. He was a man of character and a gentleman.

He was a graduate of the Merchants and Bankers School in New York. Early in his career, he was a night manager at the Hotel Commodore in New York and the Bermudiana and Castle Harbor Hotels in Bermuda.

Roland married Marguerite Addis, and they had two children.

He lived in the Van Cortlandt Park area of the Bronx until 1957, when he moved to Scotch Plains, Union Co., New Jersey.

Roland worked for 30 years as head purchasing agent for ITT Mackay Marine in Clark, Union Co. until retiring in 1972.

He died in the Hunterdon Medical Center.

Roland and Marguerite had five grandchildren.
