Alice Margaret Bills Tanner, of Spanish Fork, passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side and returned into the loving arms of her eternal companion, Glen Duke Tanner, in the early morning hours of December 11, 2020. She was truly an angel here on earth and touched so many in her 95 years of life. She was born on March 31, 1925, in Payson, Utah, to Robert Leland and Clara Marcell Loveless Bills. She was welcomed by three older brothers: Howard, Ray, and Robert; and two years later, a sister, Glenna, joined the family. When Margaret was 4 years old, the family was devastated when their mother passed away. Margaret went to live with her mother’s sister and her family. The Lula and Frank Curtis family had 4 sons and a daughter. Geraldine, the daughter, was the same age as Margaret and was now not only her cousin but also became her dear sister. She was happy and loved the Curtis family, but missed her immediate family, dearly.

Margaret enjoyed a wonderful childhood. She attended schools in Payson and graduated from Payson High School in 1944. After graduation, she moved to Ogden to work at Hill Air Force Base, taking disassembling fighter bombers and preparing them for storage. At the end of WWII, she moved back to Payson and while working at Daniels Drug Store met a handsome, young soldier returning from the Pacific Theater, Glen Duke Tanner. A wonderful courtship blossomed, and they were married January 23, 1947. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple on August 24, 1962. Four children arrived to complete this eternal family: Glenda, Nedra, Stuart, and Annette.

Margaret had a sweet, loving, kind nature. She was an example of Christ-like love for everyone. She was happy and couldn’t understand why people would not find joy in all the beauties and blessings that surround us. She was always looking forward to the next gathering, reunion, party, parade, or visit. She just enjoyed family and friends and you always felt loved and welcome at Grandma’s.

Margaret loved music! She sang for many years with the Singing Mothers and the Ward Choir. She also learned to play the piano and enjoyed playing, well into her nineties. She encouraged her children and grandchildren to play and thrilled at their recitals and concerts. She was an avid supporter at all of her children, grandchildren, and many of her great-grandchildren’s dance, sport, and music activities.

Margaret was an accomplished seamstress and made all of the girls’ school clothes, dance costumes, and cheer outfits. She made beautiful gowns for dances and proms; she also loved embroidery, crocheting, and quilting. Her grandchildren have all received beautiful quilts as wedding presents. She enjoyed gardening and working in her flower beds. She would spend hours canning produce for the family to enjoy in the winter. She was an excellent cook and her potato salad, turkey stuffing, and English Toffee are legendary. Her children were by her side, involved in all, of her activities. They learned to work while listening to her stories of life, the gospel, and her love of the Savior. In every aspect of her life, she tried to be obedient, faithful, and service oriented.

An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Margaret was involved in all the church organizations but her special love was the Primary. She loved being with children.
Later in life, Margaret and Glen served as ordinance workers in the Provo Temple for over 20 years. She was a wonderful example of faith and dedication to her posterity.

Margaret is survived by her children: Glenda (Stephen) Wilson of West Mountain, UT; Stuart (Cindy) Tanner of Fairview, UT; and Annette (Jeff) Warner of Spanish Fork, UT; 20 grandchildren and 70 great-grandchildren; as well as her sister, Glenna Jensen of Gilbert, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Glen Duke Tanner; a daughter and son-in-law, Nedra and Ken Price; and a grandson, John Robert Wilson.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Maple Creek Hospice for their love and care of Mom during the last years of her life.
