Sarah Jane Armstrong, 89, of Martinsville, passed away Sunday, December 13, 2020 at Franciscan St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis.

She was born November 19, 1931 in Martinsville to the late Earl G. and Ona Cyrine (Cooper) Parker in Morgan County, Indiana.

Sarah attended Wakeland Elementary School, Martinsville High School, and Olivet College. On July 11, 1961, she married her husband, George A. Armstrong who preceded her in death on April 4, 2015. Sarah was saved at age 11 and was active in the church all her life. She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and took an active part in the Young People’s group. She was also a member of Martinsville Baptist Tabernacle.

Sarah worked for Indiana Bell Telephone Company as a clerk for Civil Service, as Deputy Clerk for the Martinsville City Clerk , as assistant clerk for the Martinsville City Court, Firestone, and Rural King Supply. She retired from the City Clerk’s office.

She is survived by her son, Phillip G. Armstrong and wife Michelle of Morgantown; several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband and parents, Sarah is preceded in death by brothers, Robert Parker, Wayne Parker, Charles Parker; sisters, Martha Sproles, Glenna Preston, Dorothy Wikle; nieces, Alice Asher, Jerrilyn McCommon; nephew, Frank Hall.

Visitation and services for family and friends will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Martinsville Baptist Tabernacle with Pastor Wayne Denton officiating.

Committal services and burial will follow at New South Park Cemetery.
