Priest. Known for his eloquent preaching at the Carmel Retreat House in Mahwah, New Jersey, he died on Christmas Eve in Niagara Falls, Canada. He was 69. Broughan organized retreats at the 30-room Mahwah house, which offered visitors instructional programs, time for quiet reflection, and an opportunity to work on personal problems. A priest and teacher for 43 years, he also served as an associate pastor at St. Therese Of Lisieux Church in Cresskill and at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Tenafly. His final assignment over the last three years was at Mount Carmel Spiritual Center in Niagara Falls in Ontario. Broughan taught Latin, French, and German in Catholic high schools in Philadelphia. He also worked part time as a religion professor at Holy Family and Rosemont colleges and LaSalle University.
