A daughter of Dr. & Mrs. Reuben Hunter, she was educated in the public schools & Boalsburg Academy. She was one of Boalsburg's best known residents. On June 15, 1875, she married James T. Stuart who for many years conducted a temperance hotel in Boalsburg. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and it was through her instrumentality that the Boalsburg Civic club was organized. For a number of years she was its honorary president. She is survived by 4 sons: William of Boalsburg; George J. of Pittsburgh; Reuben of Crafton; and David A. of Ingram. Emma is one of three women credited with establishing Memorial Day in 1864.
