Jess “Chub” Walker, age 82 of North Platte, a former longtime Ogallala resident and businessman, passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at the Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.

Chub was born March 11, 1928 at Roscoe, Nebraska the son of Ted and Ethel (Wakefield) Walker. He graduated from the Ogallala High School with the class of 1947 and stayed involved with his class reunions.

In 1949 he married Nita Claflin, and to this union two children were born, Cathy and Steve. In 1959 he married Ruby Huber and gained two step- children, Jeri and Stuart. In 1975 Chub married Jan Moul and added four more step- children to his family, Ralph, Kathy, Mick and Marcy.

He owned and operated Walker Trucking for thirty five years, retiring in 1992. At that time he and Jan started traveling south to Padre Island and McCallen, Texas in the winters for seventeen years. In 2000 they moved from Ogallala to North Platte to make their home.

Chub was a lifetime member of the Ogallala Elks Lodge and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aeri # 2839 of North Platte.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Ethel Walker; a brother, Teddy Walker and a great-grandson, Drew Kennicutt.

Memorial services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 24, 2001 at the Ogallala United Methodist Church with Pastor Chuck Rager officiating.
