ACKERSVILLER, Ronald - Sept. 12, 1932 - Dec. 13, 2020
Laverne passed early Sunday morning December 13, 2020 in his 88th year, in the care of the angels on the medicine ward of the Stratford General Hospital and following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born to the late Lila Pearl Ackersviller (Baumbach) and raised on his grandparents farm in Gadshill, Ontario where he went to school until his grandfather's passing. He was just eight years old. He eventually moved to Stratford as a young man after working in British Columbia for a few seasons.
Stratford was where he put down his roots and raised his family. Throughout his adult life, Laverne was very dedicated to his church. He gave much of his time as an elder with Knox Presbyterian Church in Stratford and along with his wife Sharon, enjoyed donating and contributing the many crafts they would make together in order to help the churches many fundraising events.
Laverne was predeceased by his beloved wife Sharon in 2008. They were married in 1973 and were loving co-parents to three children: Catherine Sharples and husband Stephen of Mississauga, Ontario, Gary Ackersviller and his wife Jenny of Speyer, Germany and Sharon Crump and her husband Randy of Burlington, Ontario.
Laverne was a proud grandpa to Amanda, Daniel, Gregory and Mitchell and great-grandpa to William and Raine. He is a beloved brother to Mrs. Audrey Pitts and Mrs. Lorene "Tootie" Brodhagen and is predeceased by his brothers-in-law Mr. Donnie Pitts and Mr. John "Jack" Brodhagen and his step-father Roy Baumbach.
Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Laverne's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society directly at www.cancer.ca, through the Rutherford Cremation & Funeral Services website or by calling the funeral home at 519-271-5062.
