Carl W. Swinford, 80, of Hillsdale, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2020, at Union Hospital Clinton. He was born September 11, 1940, in Hillsdale to Elmer and Bessie Marie Rusmisel Swinford.
Carl was a lifelong farmer and pork producer. He was a founding member of the Parke-Vermillion Pork Producers; a member of the Vermillion County Fair Board; and a great supporter of the Vermillion County 4-H. He was also a huge supporter of various organizations throughout the community.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Harvey, Leland, and Warren.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Sally Malone Swinford; his daughters, Vickie Swinford of Fremont, Ohio, Kathy (Rodney) Clark of Hillsdale, and Christine (Steve) Smith of Hillsdale; 5 grandchildren, Tyler (Keyaira) Smith, Tanner (Macy) Smith, Gavin Clark, Peyton (Alyson Chaney) Clark, and Bryson Clark; and a great-granddaughter, the light of his life, Nora Ann Smith. He is also survived by his special farm dogs, Berkeley, Massey, Axel, and Jaxx.
There will be no visitation per his request. There will be a graveside service on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 at 2 pm at Helts Prairie Cemetery, 2780 E 1050 S, Hillsdale. The eulogy will be given by Jeff Bowyer. Burial will follow in Helts Prairie Cemetery.
