DEBORAH'S OBITUARY
Deborah Pauline (Mecum) Knowles, 70, of Wernersville, passed away Sunday, Oct. 4, 2020 at home. She was the wife of the late Irvin C. Knowles, Jr., who passed away Sept. 3, 2006. Her first husband Michael Francis Rice, passed away June 6, 1996.

Deborah, a daughter of the late Chester and Helen (Grow) Mecum, was born in Indiana. She is survived by two daughters, Antoinette Susan Rice, and Kristina Rice., wife of Edmund Newton; two sisters, Rennae Anderson, and Shelley Ziliack; and three granddaughters, Elizabeth Michael and Sarah Pauline Newton, and Dinah Deborah Betsker.

Deborah grew up in Kenosha, Wisconsin and graduated from Tremper High School. Her first job was the soda fountain girl at Woolworth's in downtown Kenosha.

She was the best grandma ever! A funny lady full of generosity, love and patriotism.

Family was her world. She was the world's best mother and an even better grandmother. Her home was always full of her family's favorite treats, and we would often graze our way through the first floor looking for our special something, maybe apple fritters, or perhaps red licorice. Her granddaughters adored her and enjoyed creating art in Grandma's "Studio 6" (aka the basement). They especially enjoyed doing paint pours. Mom had a gift for making the holidays extra special and full of silly family traditions. It might be a 4th of July birthday celebration or an Easter extravaganza - she would go all out! Soda bottle rockets, or bunny footprints, scavenger hunts, tennis balls in pantyhose game, Thanksgiving trivia, and her very popular Halloween costumes!

We often say she had the "gift" of bringing people together and making them laugh until tears ran down their leg. She was the life of the party and she would talk to everyone - no one was a stranger. She will be missed tremendously, but cherished forever in the hearts and minds of the people she loved.

We will carry on the gift of her traditions. We will hold tight to our own bits of madness and our invisible strings.

Services will be private. Lamm & Witman Funeral Home, 243 W. Penn Ave., Wernersville, is handling arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.lammandwitman.com
