Theodore George Davenport, age 85, of Lake City passed away on Friday, December 18, 2020 at his home, peacefully, and surrounded by his loving family.
Ted was born November 13, 1935 in Charlotte, Michigan to Henry Maxwell and Doris Lucille (Frey) Davenport.
He was united in marriage to Anne-Lise Sorensen on March 7, 1964 at Fort Ben Harrison in Indianapolis. Anne-Lise preceded Ted in death in 2009.
Ted graduated from Central Michigan University in June 1957 as a Distinguished Military Graduate. He received his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army through CMU ROTC. He was assigned to the Adjutant General Corps with a two year detail in Armor. He served on active duty from 1957 through 1977. His various assignments in personnel management and administration included two tours with Headquarters, Department of the Army, two in NATO Headquarters, one in Vietnam and his final battalion command at Fort Hood TX. His overseas tours included Norway and Germany as well as Vietnam. He retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in July 1977. Ted began his civilian career in Michigan in 1977 and worked twelve years in the personnel management area with two automotive part manufacturing corporations. In 2002 Ted was inducted into the Central Michigan University ROTC Hall of Fame in recognition of his outstanding service to the United States of America, the State of Michigan, and Central Michigan University. Ted also graduated from the University of Arizona in 1967 as well as the United States Army Command and General Staff College in 1971.
He was a member of the Manasota Elks Lodge in Bradenton, Florida, the Lake City American Legion Post 300, and the Crawford AuSable School District-Grayling High School Hall of Fame.
Ted is survived by his children: Erik (Lori) Davenport of Oxford, Anthony (Larene) Davenport of Macomb, Brian Davenport of Lake City, Robert (Shirley) Davenport of Kalkaska, Scott (Barbara) Davenport of Mancelona and Doris (Tom) Schultz of Canby, Oregon, 14 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchil-dren as well as his many friends.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Gary and Bruce Davenport, his sister- in-law Reidun Lindaas of Oslo, Norway, and loving grandson, Joshua Davenport.
Due to the current COVID 19 pandemic a memorial service will be planned in the spring with burial in the Lake City Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Lake City American Legion Post 300.
The family is being served by the Young-Holdship Funeral Home in Lake City.
