He went to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1903 when he was 17 years old and worked the street cars. He went back home and finished school. In 1904, he worked at the World's Fair in St. Louis, Missouri. He helped get the fair grounds ready, then got on the Jefferson Guard at the fairgrounds. Geronimo, Will Rogers and Frank James were there. He didn't get to see Frank James because he had to work. When the fair ended, Claude returned home for a month or so and returned to St. Louis. In 1907 he went to Virginia and worked at the Jamestown Exposition with some of his brothers. From there he went to Portland, Oregon. He was 18 years old and joined the National Guard. He stayed there for 18 months. He traveled extensively. By 1920, he was back home in Kentucky. He married Lillian Walker and raised tobacco on his farm. He was Sheriff in Mt. Olivet for 12 years.
