Jimmie Houston Cossey was born to Kendrick Cossey and Amy Rose (Robbs) Cossey in Weleetka, Oklahoma on February 7, 1942. He passed from this life on December 12, 2020 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Jimmie attended high school in Weleetka where he was a star of the football team—who says a man with short legs can’t run? His work took him across the country but he eventually settled back in Oklahoma. Jimmie worked odd jobs until he began his career at the tire factory. He worked at Dayton Tire, which later became Firestone. He worked there for thirty years, where he was responsible for making sure the machinery and the people were all working to specifications.

Jimmie was a disciplined man and he pursued his hobbies with the same diligence as his work. He built hotrods and was especially proud of a 1929 sedan that he poured tremendous effort into. Jimmie loved to travel and observe the differences in people and communities to learn more about them. Jimmie had visited every state in the Union except for Alaska, and his dear friend Barbara went with him on many of his journeys.

Jimmie was a simple, logical, and practical man who was grounded in his faith. He worked hard to help others and in that spirit he became a Mason and earned his 32nd degree. He was patient and slow to anger, and he taught his sons the importance of class and character. They cherish these lessons and have committed themselves to being more like their father every day.

Jimmie is preceded in death by his parents, Kendrick and Amy Rose; by brother, Leon; and his sister, Adell Banta.

Jimmie is survived by his sons, Ken and Brian Johnson; by his nephews, Jerry and Donnie Cossey; by his dear friend Barbara Watson; and by many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Saturday, December 26 from 9:00am until 12:00pm at Williamson-Spradlin Funeral Home of Wetumka, Oklahoma. Graveside funeral services for Jimmie Cossey will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery in Weleetka, Oklahoma on Saturday, December 26 at 1:00pm under the direction of Williamson-Spradlin Funeral Home.
