Karl T. Van Etten went to be with the Lord on December 18, 2020 after living a long and fulfilling life. Karl was born on October 23, 1931, to John and Gladas Van Etten in San Diego, California. In 1949, Karl joined the United States Air Force and was assigned duties as an Aero-Medical Evacuation and Paramedic Rescue Specialist in the US, Europe, and Southeast Asia. During his Air Force career, Karl's many friends and patients referred to him as "Doc Van."
In 1971, Karl began employment with the Veterans' Administration Hospital in LaJolla, California, retiring to Fort Walton Beach in 1986. During the years, Karl raised his family and travelled with his wife and sons.
He is survived by his wife, Allie Louise, whom he married on December 13, 1951, and two sons, David (wife Carol Ann) of Phoenix and Ken (wife Laraine) of Fort Walton Beach; two grandsons, David John of Phoenix and Steven of Fort Walton Beach; and a sister, Mary, of Chicago.
Besides his parents, Karl was preceded in death by his sister Josephine and brother John.
The family wishes to express their thanks to the Cancer Center for their care.
A Memorial Service for Karl will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Church.
