Victim of a long term illness

Salvia was born healthy, but happiness didn't last long. She caught proteus bacteria that destroyed most of her brain, caused blood poisoning and she couldn't breathe on her own. We wanted to bring her home, but she was given a name in case she dies at the hospital. The strong warrior was soon breathing on her own, but was only given two weeks until death, she lived for 7.5 years.

Salvia never learned to speak, walk or talk. She was blind and couldn't move, but she could hear well. She often reacted to her name, but could barely move her head to the right direction. Salvia had trouble with temperatures, and sometimes had to wear winter clothes during hot summers to avoid hypothermia. We never thought she would live to start school, when the taxi came to pick her up, my dad cried. She couldn't eat by herself, and had to be fed trough tubes. We never thought how many Christmases and Midsommars we could spend with her before she was gone, but we stopped thinking about it.

I met Salvia for the first time when my mom met my stepdad and we visited him. Salvia was lying in her bed being fed in trough the tubes. I met her older sister, she excitedly explained everything about Salvia. We liked looking at her, admiring her. I liked operating the feeding machine and watching movies with her, I think its facisinating how close we grew as siblings even though we never exchanged a single word.

Salvia enjoyed baths and water in general. Her absolute favorite thing was toe massages given by her grandfather. Salvia could barely express emotion. Once she was away from home for three days because of a serious infection. Tears came out of her eyes when she heard her father's voice. Her life could have ended at any moment, and she was close with death four times before death took her.

On the 10th of March, she had been at the hospital for a dangerous infection for a while. I was with my mom when she received a call and started crying. Salvia had passed away despite fighting hard.

Grief hit us hard. Her father had already lost another child of his two years prior to Salvia's birth. I wanted to keep all the clothes Salvia had but my stepfather sold all of them, he wanted to get rid of everything that reminded him of her, except for a few photos. After her funeral, I liked playing a music box outside the window for her. I knew Salvia is watching us from heaven.

''Salvia..
Despite that we never exchanged a single word, I could have never asked for a better older sister. I loved feeding you, the machine was pretty interesting. I loved watching movies with you. I loved talking with you. I know you understood everything I said, but couldn't respond. I knew you were watching us from Heaven since I was a child, I hope you heard the music I played to you.
I want to see you again..
But that will happen when my time comes

I love you''
