Hubert L. Greenbank
Born January 27, 1924, to Lester and Irene Greenbank, Hubert L. Greenbank lived the early part of his life in Valley Center, Kansas. The story goes that a childhood friend, at a very young age, couldn't pronounce "Hubert" and called him "Pete" instead. The moniker stuck, and he was thereafter known as Pete to all his friends. He attended Wichita University and briefly attended Princeton University until he left to serve the Army in World War II. He married his childhood sweetheart Betty and together they had two children - son Alan and daughter Cindy. Pete published The Valley Center Index, a weekly newspaper for years, sold the business and worked for the Wichita Eagle and Beacon newspaper until his retirement. He and Betty enjoyed the remainder of their years living in the mountains of Colorado. He passed away June 2, 2020. Pete was predeceased by his sister, Phyllis, his parents, dear wife Betty, and son Alan. He is survived by his daughter and granddaughter.
