Gene J. Beard, Sr., 59, of Dayton, died Sunday, October 12, 2003, at the St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Beaumont.

Funeral services will be held at 2 Pm, Wednesday, October 15, 2003 at the Sterling Funeral Home Chapel and burial following at Magnolia Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 Pm to 9 Pm, Tuesday, at he funeral home. Services are under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton.

Gene was born February 1, 1944, in Houston, to parents; Marshall and Essie Beard, and has resided in the Dayton area throughout his life. He was a retired boilermaker from the Wyatt Field Service Company after 30 years of service, member of the National Transient Lodge, veteran of the US Army with service during the Vietnam War, Pentecostal by faith, and enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, and gardening.

Mr. Beard was preceded in death by his parents and brother: Jack Beard. He is survived by his daughters: Dorothy Roebuck and husband Matt of Kountze and Evelyn Ford of Port Arthur, sons: Gene J. Beard, Jr. & wife Janet Richmond of Bryan and Jimmy Ford, Jr. and wife Kim of Kenefick, brother: Johnny Beard of Florida, sisters: Suddie Harrison and husband Tommy of Dayton and Pearline Rayburn and husband Jerry of Dayton, 15 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, mother of his children: Betty Martel of Votaw, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
