US Continental Congressman. He was admitted to the bar in 1770, practiced law and was one of the signers of the New Jersey Articles of Association in 1774. That year he was elected to the First Continental Congress and served until 1776. He was elected Chief Justice of the State Supreme Court in 1776, and was Mayor of Elizabethtown from 1789 until his death.
