Feb. 24, 1918 — Feb. 20, 2014
On Feb. 20, 2014, Leona Klippel passed away peacefully at Stoneybrook Assisted Living just four days short of her 96th birthday.
She was born to Leo and Grace Zimmerschied on Feb. 24, 1918, in Kansas City, Mo. She grew up in Overland Park, Kan., graduating from Shawnee Mission High School as valedictorian.
Leona married her first husband, Walter Robert Urban, in 1936 and moved to Omaha, Neb., where she had her daughter, Diana Jane. After divorcing in 1946, she worked odd jobs before meeting her second husband, Edgar Klippel, whom she married in 1950. In 1960 they built their dream home on Clarence Circle in Corvallis.
Leona was an accomplished artist (oil paintings), seamstress, gardener and writer. She loved crossword puzzles, especially the New York Times Sunday puzzle. She loved her “boys” on the OSU basketball team. She was a passionate Beaver Believer. Know as “Shortie” or “Granny Goose” to friends and family, her wit and laugh will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her daughter, Diana Wadsworth of Medford; granddaughter Karen Barton (Craig) of Portland; and great-grandsons Ethan and Adam Barton.
