MARIE R. CLEVENGER, 86, Spooner, died on Friday, Sept. 8, 2000, at Spooner Health System.


She was born in Sarona on Feb. 3, 1914, to Joseph and Mary (Yechout) Sauer. She graduated from Shell Lake High School in 1932 and attended school in Chicago, receiving her nursing degree. She then moved to Florida and worked as a nurse.


She married Robert Clevenger in Florida, and they resided in North Dakota and then Shell Lake. Marie worked for Dr. Moen in Shell Lake and then moved to Houston, Texas, in 1953 and continued her nursing. She returned to Shell Lake in 1998.


Survivors include one sister, Mildred Masterjohn, Shell Lake; five nephews; five nieces; and many grand-nephews and nieces and great-nephews and nieces.


She was preceded in death by three sisters, one brother, and her husband, in 1996.


A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 12, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Shell Lake, with the Very Reverend John Drummy officiating. Burial will be in Sarona Cemetery.


Visitation will be from noon until 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church.


Pockat Funeral Home, Shell Lake, is in charge of arrangements.
