FRANKLIN FURNACE - Mary Elizabeth Wheeler, age 87, of Franklin Furnace, joined her Lord and Savior on August 23, 2001.Mary was born in Junior Furnace, Scioto County, Ohio, on January 7, 1914, the daughter of the late Richard and Tabitha Gallion.
She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Shelby Wheeler in 1982.Mary was a homemaker and mother of four children. She and her husband resided in Logan County, W.Va., from 1940-1963, and resided in Franklin Furnace until her death.
Surviving are four children and spouses, Betty Jewell and Dick Browning of Culpepper, Va., Vernon and Chris Wheeler of Belchertown, Ma., Charlotte Wheeler of Ironton and Buryl and Carol Wheeler of Wheelersburg.One of 11 children, Mary is survived by a sister, Julia Waddell of Fairborn, Ohio, and two sisters-in-law, Vivian Gallion of Zenia, Ohio, and Pearl Otworth of Hanging Rock.Mary was a grandmother of 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Local grandchildren are Sherri Burton of Ironton, Sandy Salyers and Patty Peterseim, both of Wheelersburg.
Mary was a lifetime member of Ohio Furnace Baptist Church and locally attended First Church of God in Franklin Furnace.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, August 26, 2001, at the D.W. Swick Funeral Home in Wheelersburg, with the Revs. Larry Lavender and Brian Chaffin officiating. Interment will be in Buckeye Cemetery. Combined choirs from both churches will sing requests by the the deceased.Friends may call Saturday from 6-9 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the funeral home.
