Mrs. Mary E. Allen, 88 of Galesburg and formerly of Abingdon, passed away at 1:11 p.m. Thursday, December 31, 2020, at Heartland Health Care Center in Galesburg.

She was born June 22, 1932, west of Canton in Joshua Township, Fulton County, Illinois, the daughter of Cecil and Frances (Keefauver) Lundry. She married R. LaVerne Allen on February 23, 1952, in Knoxville. He preceded her in death on January 8, 2001. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Robert Lundry, and one sister, Louella Thurman.

Mary is survived by one son, Dan (and Ellen) Allen of Weatherford, Texas; one daughter, Jeanne (and Mike) Gumm of Dahinda; two granddaughters, Leslie (and Kale) Crader of Grandview, Texas, and Lynzee (and Jason) Riney of Godley, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Kinzie, Camden, and Jensyn Riney; two step-grandchildren, Trisha Musick and Jennifer Malone; and four step-great-grandchildren.

She graduated from Valley High School in 1950. She had lived in Abingdon most of her life and in Galesburg for the past ten years. She was an Accredited Medical Records Technician and worked at the former Galesburg State Research Hospital and later worked in Lab and Medical Records at the former Saunders Hospital in Avon. She also worked in medical records at Galesburg Cottage Hospital and OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg and as a reviewer for Central Illinois Medical Review Organization in Champaign. She was a member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church, where she also served on the Board of Trustees and the Pastor Parish Committee. She was a member of the Abingdon Chapter BB PEO. and the American Health Information Management Association. She volunteered at the John Mosser Public Library in Abingdon and the Abingdon Historical Society.

Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, a private funeral service will be Friday, January 8, 2021, at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Dr. Scott Carnes will officiate. There will be no visitation. Those wishing to attend the funeral "virtually" may watch the live broadcast at 11 a.m. Friday on the funeral home's Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Hinchliff-Pearson-West-Funeral-Directors-and-Cremation-Services-1603336644037824. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery.
