Donald “Don” E. McKillop, 80, of Terre Haute passed away on Friday, January 1, 2021 at IU University Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born on September 29, 1940, in Terre Haute, to John D. and Grace (Hall) McKillop.

Don is survived by his wife of 17 years, Kelli (Gordon) McKillop of Terre Haute; son, James D. McKillop and wife Dawn; daughter, Shanna Long and husband Marcus; sister, Patricia A. Sullivan; Mother-in-law, Joann Gordon; grandchildren, James D. McKillop II, Marriah A. McKillop, Kaleb Long, Kalina Long, Mark A. McKillop Jr., Matthew McKillop, Damon McKillop, and Carlei McKillop; four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Mark A. McKillop; grandson, James Michael McKillop; three brothers, and two sisters.

Don proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. He worked for many years as a maintenance mechanic at CBS and Newport Munitions Depot. He then went to work as a plumber for the Terre Haute Housing Authority until his retirement.

Don was an active member and volunteer for the Marine Corps League, running Northside Bingo for many years. He was always coming up with new ideas for the club and was always willing to put in the work to bring his ideas to life. He was also a member of American Legion Post 104. An avid outdoorsman, Don enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved to watch sports and was a fan of IU Basketball, Notre Dame Football, Indiana Pacers and Colts, and the Chicago Cubs. He enjoyed family games of poker and euchre. He loved hanging around the house with his beloved dog, Cody. He had a great sense of humor and liked to tease and pull pranks on his family and friends. Don was a true gentleman. Once a Marine, always a Marine, Don remained protective of his family, especially women, children, and babies. He had a quiet, gentle strength that was always apparent to those he loved and cared about. He was a wonderful man and will be truly missed.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 8 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home. A funeral ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, at the funeral home with Pastor Andy Smith officiating. Don will be laid to rest with military honors in Roselawn Memorial Park.
