Francis J Hanlon was the first child of Michael Hanlon. Michael was the eldest child of Isabella Cavanagh and James Hanlon. The family were Irish immigrants to Ontario, Canada in 1825. It is thought that his mother must have died in childbirth with his sister Isabella. He was raised by his fathers second wife Margaret Sullivan.
