Cottage Hills - George W. Allen, 85, passed away at 2:45 a.m., Monday, Dec. 28, 2020 at OSF St. Anthony's Health Center in Alton, Illinois. Born July 31, 1935 in Pearl, Illinois, he was the son of Walter & Lula (Daniels) Allen.

A Korean War veteran, he was an electrician for McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft in St. Louis for 37 years before retiring. George served on the Cottage Hills Volunteer Fire Department for 37 years and as Chief for 15 years.

In 1982, he married Darlene Shaw in Cottage Hills, IL. She survives. Also surviving are sons Mary Allen of East Alton, IL and Jeff Allen of Pittsfield, IL; stepson Shawn Hart of Cottage Hills; 21 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sister Bell Ottwell of Peoria, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son Gale Allen; and brother Howard Allen.

Family services and burial will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 2, 2021 at Green Pond Cemetery near Pearl. Marks Mortuary in Wood River, IL was in charge of arrangements. (Obituary from The Telegraph; 12/29/2020.)
