Death of John Edwards
The body of John D. Edwards was brought here for burial Monday afternoon, in the Princeville cemetery. Mr. Edwards died at the home of his son Oscar, in Peoria, on Friday, July 5th. Although Mr. Edwards was 83 years, 3 months and 5 days old at the time of death, he had been in comparatively good health. He has been able to be about and was active for one of his advanced years. After becoming ill in Friday, he sank rapidly and died in a few hours, apparently falling into a sleep from which he never awoke.
Mr. Edwards was born in Brown, county, Ohio, March 30, 1829. He was for many years a resident of Princeville and vicinity, leaving here almost twelve years ago shortly after the death of his wife. Since then he has resided in Peoria with the son Oscar.
Mr. Edwards is survived by five sons, Edward and Oscar of Peoria, William of Chicago, Clarence of Vinton, Iowa and George of Madison, Minnesota. He is also survived by a brother, Albert Edwards of Vinton, Iowa, and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Wallace, of Rockford, Missouri.
Funeral service was held Monday morning in Peoria and the body was brought here Monday afternoon to be laid beside that of his late wife. The immediate relatives from Peoria and Will Edwards from Chicago, all companied the remains to the last resting place. Five of the grandsons acted as pall bearers,
Mr. Edwards is well remembered by many of our readers as a good and kindly man, and he was held in high esteem by all who knew him.
