Reverend Alvis Arie Sewell 96, of Yorktown Indiana, passed away at 4:30 am on January 8, 2021. He has gone to home to be with the Lord.
Alvis was born on November 2,1924 to James Elzy and Kizzie Jane Garrett Sewell in the Mt. Helen Community in Fentress County Tennessee. On April 15, 1948 he married Amaryllis Nancy Terry Sewell who shortly passed after then celebrated their 70th anniversary.
Rev. Sewell was most recently pastor at Glory Land United Baptist Church in Muncie, Indiana, and formerly pastored a church in Winchester Indiana, Fort Wayne United Baptist Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Fountain City Indiana Baptist Church, he has held numerous revivals over the years in Indiana, Tennessee and Kentucky where he saw several persons accept the Lord as their savior.
In 1971 he retired from Warner Gear C. Borg after 33 years of service. After retiring he had his own upholstery shop, and worked for Yorktown Community Schools as a bus driver and janitor as well as his work in the ministry. He is also a 70 years Mason.
Also surviving are two sons, John Stephen Sewell wife Kathy, from Muncie, Indiana, Rickie Joe Sewell, wife Catherine from North Webster Indiana, eight grandchildren, Elizabeth Rocky, husband Shannon of Albion, Indiana, Christopher Sewell wife, Tina of Winnfield, Tennessee, Carl Sewell wife, Fabiola of Leesburg, Indiana, Chad Sewell, wife, Shellie of Selma, Indiana, Sarah Hahn, husband, Chris of Muncie, Indiana, Melinda Morehead, husband, John of Milford, Indiana, Samantha Ellis of Alexandria, Indiana, Adam Sewell, wife, Shawna of Selma, Indiana, 19 great grandchildren, Austin Shaw, Robert Williams, wife Holly, Shannon, Matthew Rocky all of Albion, Indiana, Eli Sewell of Winnfield Tennessee, Payton and Devin Sewell, of Leesburg, Indiana, Allen, Ross and Juliet Sewell of Selma, Indiana, Darian and Tyler Beckham of Muncie, Indiana, Jasmine and Abigail Morehead of Milford, Indiana, Nevaeh and Makoyla Ellis of Alexandria, Indiana, and Abigail and Meredith Sewell of Selma Indiana, 3 great great grandchildren, in Albion, Indiana, and also 3 sister-in-laws Gladys Good, Evelyn Terry, and Lois Sewell along with numerous nieces nephews and other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Elzy and Jane Sewell, one son Larry Allen Sewell, 1 granddaughter, Cindy Jo Sewell, 8 brothers, and sisters, Harvey D. Sewell, Steven L. Sewell, Edith E. Gale, Freeman M. Sewell, Anna B. Summers, Chesley W. Sewell, Melvin k. Sewell, and Elby E. Sewell.
Funeral services for Alvis will be held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at the River View United Baptist Church in Albany, Indiana, Officiating will be Chad Sewell and John Sewell, interment will follow in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park of Muncie, Indiana, under the direction of Parson Mortuary and Cremation Center.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until service time at the church.
