Freda Yancy

Graveside services for Freda Faye Yancy, 101, of Ada are 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Rosedale Cemetery, Tracy Scheer will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Criswell Funeral Home.

Mrs. Yancy passed away Saturday, January 9, 2021 at the Ada Baptist Village. She was born August 2, 1919 at Ada to William E. and Mary Willoughby Gunter.

She married Coy Yancy in 1976. He preceded her in death in 1997. Mrs. Yancy had worked as a Sales Clerk for C. R. Anthony Store for 35 years.

Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Sandy Willis, Ada; grandson, Brad Willis, Seminole; granddaughter, Brenda Son, Ada; 11 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Bill Willis; grandson, Steve Willis; and sister, Nellie Frye.

Freda Faye Gunter was born August 2, 1919 in the Community of Egypt near Ada, Pontotoc County, Oklahoma; one of five children born to William E. Gunter and Mary Louvina (Willouby) Gunter. Her father was a night watchman with the highway department and her mother was a homemaker. Freda was married to Harvey E. Willis for one year and had one son, William Willis. In 1976 she married Coy Yancy. They shared 21 years of marriage before his passing. In addition to her son, Freda was blessed with three grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Freda was a lifelong Oklahoman, attending school in Ada. She worked as a sales person for the CR Anthony Store, retiring in 1982. She attended the Church of the Nazarene. Christmas was her favorite holiday as it was a celebration of the birth of Christ. Her favorite song was Blue Eyes Cryin' In The Rain. Quilting was her hobby and she volunteered at the local hospital.
Freda Faye (Gunter) Willis-Yancy was inducted into the Centenarians of Oklahoma Hall of Fame on the occasion of her 100th birthday celebration. She shared with us these words of wisdom: "Serve The Lord!"
