Emma was born under the name Jennie Emma Otis, daughter of Hezekiah W. and Mary A. (Otis) Otis of Fairfield and Norridgewock, Maine. She had a younger sibling Jennie M. who died at age 8 before Emma was born and Emma was thereafter called Jennie. Jennie's father was a railroad worker born in Fairfield and mother had been born in Athens Maine and had eleven children. The family resided in Norridgewock, Maine. Her mother died in 1905 and father in 1917.

Emma married and was divorced. She married 2nd, Joachein Leonard "Leonard" DesJardins/DeJardins born in 1888 in Maine, son of Samuel and Sara (Mercier) Desjardin, both born in Canada. They married Nov 24, 1909 in Waterville, Kennebec, Maine and his name was spelled Joeacom L. DeJardins on the marriage record and her name Jennie E. Otis. His age was given as 21 and occupation as barber and her age 25.

Emma and Leonard resided in Lynn Massachusetts where Leonard was first a machinist and then a barber and Emma worked in the shoe industry. In the 1920 census they did not yet have children and Emma was a vamper in the shoe shop.

In the 1930 census in Lynn Emma was 48 and was a teacher in a shop. Her husband Leonard was 41, also born in Maine, and a barber. Also in the household was daughter Jeanne N. age 9 born in Massachusetts. Not sure if this was a daughter or a child of her brother Hezekiah whose wife had died the year prior. Emma also had other siblings who had moved to the Lynn area.

In the 1940 census still in Lynn, Emma was now a shoe worker in the shoe ship and Jeanne was no longer in the census with Emma and Leonard.

Died 81 years old, wife of J. Leonard DesJardins. Her husband died in 1969 and was buried Saint Francis Catholic Cemetery in Waterville Maine with his mother Sara Mercier Desjardins.

First husband added by Jeff Hubbard FindaGrave Contributor 47361123.
