PROPHETSTOWN – Denise D. McLoughlin, age 70, of Prophetstown, died December 29, 2020, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.
Denise was born October 28, 1950, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of Dennis and Esther (Cordry) Wranik. She married Timothy McLoughlin on November 4, 1968 in Elgin. He preceded her in death on March 11, 2019.
She worked with the Tampico Area Historical Society for 30 years, where she was considered a jack of all trades. She helped catalog items at the museum, did research on past and present Tampico residents as well as those who were buried in the Tampico Cemetery. She was the host of the monthly newsletter and was instrumental in establishing the Tampico Area Historical Society website, www.tampicohistoricalsociety.com. Her knowledge and willingness to learn the history of the local area has been invaluable in filling the pages of the website. She worked very hard with the Tampico Historical Preservation Advisory Committee (TPAC). This group was responsible for the bronze plaques put on all 13 of the original buildings on Main Street. Her interest in genealogy has brought inquiries from all over the world to the website. There are MANY acknowledgements from people she was able to help with their ancestry. She was the owner of "The Family Tree Hugger" since 2013. She had over 20 years of experience and a great passion for family history and genealogical research. She specialized, but was not limited to, the Midwest, USA and Western Slovokia. She had posted on her Facebook page, "I like to party and by party, I mean genealogy." Denise was also the historian for the First United Methodist Church in Tampico.
Survivors include five children, Tracy Murray, Shawna McLoughlin, Kevin "Corey" (Felicia) McLoughlin, Kyle McLoughlin and Summer McLoughlin; nine grandchildren, Brandi, Adam, Alexis, Colin, Emily, Kaitlyn, Mikaela, Isabella and Aleigha and six great-grandchildren, Ashton, Miguel, Adrian, Raleigh, Calum and Jax.
She was preceded by her husband; parents and her half brother, Patrick.
Cremation rites will be accorded. Arrangements were completed by the McDonald Funeral Home.
