Anita R. Kennedy, age 101, of Ogdensburg passed away on Tuesday (Jan 12, 2021) at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Surviving are two sons Paul Kennedy of Heuvelton, John Kennedy of Hammond; four daughters Carol Johnson of Port Richey, FL, Kathryn (Steven) Bateman of Lisbon, Mary Jane (Michael) Lesperance of Ogdensburg and Patricia (Steven) Smithers of Ogdensburg; a brother George Rumble of MI; a sister Aggie (Harry) Haskins of FL; 21 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren; a daughter in law Patti Kennedy of Cicero; a sister in law Megan Rumble of MI; and many nieces, nephews & cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband of 72 years Curtis Kennedy; a son James Michael Kennedy; a daughter in law Joan Kennedy; two brothers Mark & Benny Rumble; two sisters Phyllis Ritchie and Iona Singh and four grandchildren Karl Johnson, Michael Kennedy, Lynn Vonarx and Diana Sassatelli.

Anita was born on October 3, 1919 in Ogdensburg NY, a daughter of the late John & Evelyn (Gagnon) Rumble. She graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy and continued her education at the Buffalo State Teachers College where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in education.

She was later married to Curtis F. Kennedy on June 21, 1941 at Notre Dame Church with Father P. Leon Legault officiating.

Anita was a devoted mother that raised seven children, and then began her teaching career at the Notre Dame Catholic School where she taught 2nd & 3rd grades for 13 years. She also assisted with the church bazaar’s, managed the Massaouapi Cabins in Hammond with her husband Curtis, gave utmost devotion to her religion, and loved to socialize and spend time with her children and grandchildren. Yearly holiday celebrations were always held at the Kennedy household with multiple members in attendance to enjoy a packed house.

Burial at the Notre Dame Cemetery.
