David George Ehlert, 77, of Asheville, died peacefully on Jan. 5 after a sudden downturn in health brought on by a series of strokes.
Born in Wisconsin Rapids, WI, he was preceded in death by his brother, Laird, and two previous wives, Sandra Hanson Ehlert and Dodi Tibbitts Peterson Ehlert.
David was a 1963 graduate of the University of Wisconsin where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Speech and Social Sciences.
He spent most of his adult life selling paper, eventually becoming the most profitable salesman the world’s largest containerboard mill ever had. He later wrote speeches for executives and began his own executive training company before retiring at age 55.
He approached the Creator of all of us via several denominations ---Lutheran, Presbyterian, and Methodist.
He is survived by his wife, Kaaren McNulty; son, Kevin (Lisa) Ehlert of West Chester, OH; daughter, Kristin Molinari of Deerfield, Il; stepdaughters Kristine Kaatz of Springfield, MO; Jennifer (Sean) Corbin of DeKalb, Il; Jerry Peterson of Atlanta, GA; Shannon (Toby) Burwell of Los Angeles, CA; and a dozen grandchildren.
One of Dave’s great joys after moving to Asheville was his affiliation with the first Men’s Wisdom Works group. He loved his time spent with them and they were a great source of love, camaraderie and inspiration to him. Thank you, guys!
Facing his death with calmness and courage, Dave viewed this transition as life’s greatest adventure and looked forward to a future as bright as the promises of God.
His transition was made dignified by the loving and respectful care he received by the staff of the John Keever Solace Center.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4pm, Jan. 21 at Central United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity in memory of David Ehlert.
