William Terrell Garrett was born in Mississippi, the son of Jonathan Joshua and Mary (Grantham) Garrett. On March 6, 1879, he married Nancy Civility (Stewart) Caldwell, a widow. They had one daughter and four sons. In 1880, William owned a farm in Montgomery County, Mississippi, with 40 acres of improved land, 34 acres of woodland, and 6 acres of other unimproved land. There, he raised cattle, swine, and chickens, and produced butter, eggs, corn, oats, cotton, apples, and peaches. Around 1883, the family moved to Leake County, but returned to Montgomery County nine years later. Nancy died on May 3, 1904, and William married Maggie Hightower Carroll (1862-1915) on Nov. 10, 1904. Maggie died on Feb. 3, 1915, and on July 14, 1920, William married Mary Ella Herring Evans (1858-1934). William died in Montgomery County of heart disease on Jan. 9, 1922.
