Carole Lynn Thorpe, 76, passed away on January 19, 2021. She is survived by her husband Paul W. Thorpe, Jr. of 59 years; She was the daughter of the late Charles and Gladys Augustine; two children: Holly C Spielman (Kenneth Jr); six Grandchildren: Amber, Lauren, Morgan, Kenneth III, Mykayla,and Adam; five great Grandchildren: Justin, Cory, Isaac, Seren, and Declan; and two sisters: Charlene Joseph and Robin Augustine. She also leaves behind a host of other family and friends. Carole was also an avid quilter/knitter/crafter. One of her biggest accomplishments was making a quilt for the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. The quilt project was established by the Atlanta Olympic Organizing Committee and called the Georgia Quilt Project. The project celebrated American quilting traditions through "A Gift of Quilts" project. The project called for two handmade quilts of various designs to be presented to each participating nation – one to the nation's opening ceremony flag bearer and one to the National Olympic Committee. The project created 400 different quilts that are now distributed throughout the world. During the Games, 397 quilts were on display at the Nicholson Gallery of Atlanta History Center, including the quilt Carole made. Carole's quilt was presented to the officials from Seychelles.
